ZEROING IN - STAGE FOUR ASSESSING A SPECIFIC PROJECT
If the content of the MDB Health Sector lending commitments look interesting, now is time to check the potential opportunities on a specific MDB-financed project, an exercise that can be carried out in any MDB sector. The contents list as required in the MDB health sector are very varied and will be in any MDB sector.
The same is true of individual projects, that usually include a gamut of requirements, all to be bid for at different times and different ways, usually with a Project Coordination Unit (PCU) or Project Management Unit (PMU) at the helm, set up by the appropriate ministry.
Nearly every MDB project will include consulting assignments, goods and works. For the profile of these contract categories on World Bank projects, click here. To return to this page, click your browser's back button.
The following is an example of a small section of the goods and consultancy procurement plan on the $300 million World Bank Health Nutrition and Population Sector Program for Bangladesh, approved in April 2005 and due to continue until 2010.
You can access this information by going to the World Bank website, clicking on Projects and Operations, which takes you to the Bank's project home page, then click either on Country/Area or Sector whence you can browse at will in either category.
In this case you can go from Countries to Bangladesh, then to the project - click on the name of the above project in the list. On the project page, click on the Project Appraisal Document (PAD), in which you'll find the procurement examples below. Another way is to go from the World Bank Project home page to the Sector, click on whichever sector is of interest and then the country and project of interest. In these two ways, you can source the PADs of any approved MDB project.
Goods contracts planned on the project: The first reference below is the planned contract number in the project's procurement plan, the second is the equipment needed, the third gives the US dollar budget below (eg $3.146 million) and the budget in million Bangladesh takas above, and the last column indicates how the contract will be bid for (ie ICB - International Competitive Bidding).
Consulting services: A similar set of assignments is provided for the consulting services required, of which a small portion is given here, this time with estimated budgets all in US dollars.
